As a filter medium, Arcosa Lightweight is very durable, and coupled with its porous structure and increased surface area, it is an exceptional filtering material for metalloids, suspended solids, oil and grease.

Expanded shale and clay has the long-term ability to absorb nutrients and maintain hydraulic flow to ensure that water treatment is effective and sustainable. Some uses of lightweight aggregate as a filter medium include: Filter Strips, Rain Basins, Rain Gardens, Geo-Sacks, Underground Filter Fill and Waterfall.

Because expended shale and clay is consistent, dependable and 100% manufactured, the product is physically and chemically inert. Other advantages of lightweight aggregate for filter medium include hydraulic conductivity that allows for fast, free drainage and ceramic properties that reduce material degradation. Its high angle of internal friction provides stability and strength while its reduced weight lowers freight and handling costs.
